Cyclone Biparjoy, which would make landfall on the Gujarat coast, could result in the flooding of several routes and disruption of Railways, overhead power lines and signalling systems in Gujarat. Widespread damage to crops, plantations and orchards is also expected in the state.

By India Today News Desk: Cyclone Biparjoy is likely to make landfall on the Gujarat coast on Thursday (June 15) and several states have braced up for the impact. According to the details, thatched houses and kutcha houses are expected to be severely hit by the cyclone.

There could also be a threat from flying objects, while power and communication poles could be uprooted.


As a precautionary measure, fishing operations over the east central and adjoining west central Arabian Sea have been suspended till Thursday.

The Gujarat government has mobilised evacuation from coastal areas of Saurashtra and Kachchh, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagarh and Morbi districts.



Railways, overhead power lines, signalling systems could be disrupted, while crops, plantations and orchards in the state could be damaged under the impact of Cyclone Biparjoy.

The cyclone is expected to make landfall in Kachchh’s Jakhau, where fishermen and salt traders stare at financial losses.

However, the cyclone will immediately weaken following landfall due to the dry winds active in Pakistan and adjoining western areas.

RAJASTHAN

As per the weather department, rain and thunderstorm activities are likely in Rajasthan's Jodhpur and Udaipur divisions on June 15, under the impact of Cyclone Biparjoy.


On June 16, South Western Rajasthan may witness winds flowing at a speed of 45 to 55 kmph.

The weather department also said that heavy rains are likely to continue till June 17, in Jodhpur, Udaipur and Ajmer divisions, and in nearby areas.

MADHYA PRADESH

Thunder and lightning are likely at some places over Shahdol, Jabalpur, Bhopal and Narmadapuram divisions of the state.

Similar weather conditions are also likely in Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Burhanpur, Sagar, Jhabua, Ujjain, Rewa, Satna and Chhatarpur districts, during the next 24 hours.

Thunderstorms with strong winds are expected in the districts of Khandwa, Burhanpur, Khargone, Sagar, Rewa, Satna, Chhatarpur, Raisen, Bhopal and Sehore.

On the other hand, there is a possibility of a heatwave at some places in Dhar, Balaghat and Ratlam districts of Madhya Pradesh.

GOA

The effect of cyclonic movement towards the Indian coast is already visible in Goa as high waves were witnessed at the sea. At present, tourists are banned from visiting the beaches.

DELHI

Not much impact from Cyclone Biparjoy is expected in Delhi-NCR.

However, rain with strong winds in the surrounding areas is possible.
